boat electronics question?
i have a sail boat with outboard, 12 volt system battery. My radio system keeps cutting out around high volume and re-setting to “0″ volume. This happens several times a day i have changed radios, run off an isolated 12 volt battery( not system battery) same thing happens to each radio. Is this because i don’t have The Boat grounded? I’ve run off a main fuse panel with same problem but i don’t have a ground off the main battery to any metal on the boat.
I’m lost with this problem any help would be great!!!
Do not ground the battery to any metal part of the vessel.
Battery grounded to boat = electrical current = electrolysis = boat sinking. (kind of extreme but hope you get the idea)
Now the problem may not be battery related, it could be the radio. your wire may not be large enough to carry the current required by the radio as you increase the volume or you may have a bad connection somewhere increasing current draw.
